On Nov. 15, 2025 in Lockport, a new sporting goods store opened and many softball and baseball players in the area were looking forward to it. Sports HQ is a sporting goods store geared towards softball and baseball, but it also includes the perk of batting cages.
“I’m excited to have some batting cages closer to home. There isn’t much in this area currently,” said local softball player, Emmy Yoder. Ever since the Megaplex in Homer Glen decided to replace their turf area with basketball courts, and the old batting cages near there went out of business, there haven’t been very many places for softball and baseball players to put in some work in outside of practice.
Unlike other batting cages around here, it is open 24/7. This makes it easier for softball and baseball players who have busy schedules and want extra time to train. There is an option for a membership, and an option to pay-as-you-go.
The cages were built to serve as a premier training facility, addressing the need for an accessible area to train year round. The longer hours have evoked interest in many softball and baseball players who are looking for more flexible opportunities.
