From dominant individual performances to impressive team efforts, the 2026 school year’s state qualifiers have been full of standout moments. Across multiple sports, Porter athletes have consistently earned spots at the state level, showcasing the depth of talent across Lockport’s athletics as well as a culture built on commitment and resilience. Lockport’s athletics department this year has shown nothing less than what it means to be a Porter.
That Porter pride shows up in moments such as girls wrestling, who had a standout performance at the state level this year, resulting in Lockport’s second-place team finish. Senior Claudia Heeney continued her dominance by becoming a three-time state champion, while Rebekah Ramirez placed third and Sophie Kelner finished fourth, helping secure one of the strongest team results in program history.
The pride doesn’t end there either. Beyond wrestling, the boys bowling team earned a state runner-up finish, while the girls bowling team placed fourth in state overall. Varsity cheerleading had a strong showing with a second place finish at state overall, and competition dance finished 22nd at state. Even in these sports where the final placement was not at the very top, simply competing at that level speaks volumes about the strength and dedication within these sports.
However, what truly sets Lockport apart is the range of success: boys and girls swimming and diving, girls golf, cross country, and more all contributing to the school-wide success. With strong performances coming from multiple sports, the level of consistency goes beyond individual talent or even individual sports and instead points to a combined school effort to work our hardest, and it is evidently paying off.
The true meaning of being a Porter goes beyond winning and rankings; it’s about belonging to a school that always puts their best foot forward. The all-around excellence that Lockport produces is not common, and it’s exactly why being a Porter is something to be proud of every single day.
